Communities Meet at 1 Police Plaza for High Holy Days Briefing

With the high holidays approaching, community leaders and activists gathered at One Police Plaza in Manhattan for a security report and threat assessment meeting covering the security of places of worship, with the commissioner of police Hon. Raymond Kelly.

Opening the ceremony was a dedication to the two detectives from the 107th precinct that were assigned to the case in which 8 Sifrai Torah were stolen in Queens, and managed to apprehend those involved and return the 8 torahs.

Members of the NYPD’s Shomrim Society all walked into the hall from the stage, each carrying one of the torahs as Dr. R. Alvin Kass, the NYPD’s Jewish Chaplin, recited a blessing of Shehecheyanu.
