Leviev, a Russian real-estate mogul has been contributing an estimated 60 million dollars a year to Jewish causes. He underwrites Jewish day schools, synagogues, orphanages, social centers and soup kitchens for more than 500 communities, most in the in the former Soviet Union.
Leviev is known to pay the salaries of over 300 Chabad Rabbis in the former Soviet Union and in the USA.
Due to the recent global financial crisis, Lev Leviav will be stopping to pay the aforementioned salaries.
These Rabbis, rely on the Leviev's benevolence to bring spirituality to the community as well as feed and clothe their families.
