Kever Rochel Open to Standard Vehicles

For years only bulletproof buses were allowed to travel to Kever Rochel, but this week Interior Security Minister Avi Dichter issued orders to allow standard vehicles access as well. Nevertheless walking to the site on foot remains prohibited. The police and the Border Patrol made a joint decision to adopt the new policy following Dichter's directive, which is slated to remain in effect for a trial period of one month.

During Elul and the Yom Tov season thousands of visitors are expected to arrive at the site, which was reinforced and surrounded by concrete barriers 12 years ago. The site and the surrounding area were annexed to Jerusalem based on a decision by the Israeli government under the leadership of former PM Ariel Sharon.
