Irkutsk, Russia - Synagogue to Welcome New Torah Scroll

Residents Irkutsk will soon be celebrating a very important event in the life of the local Jewish community. On September 21st, the main hall of the Synagogue – which is still not completely restored – will host a festive gathering for carrying in a new Torah scroll, which was obtained with funds raised by community members.

Chief Rabbi of Irkutsk Aaron Wagner spoke as to the great significance of this event in the pre-Angara/ Baikal region of eastern Siberia. The key sponsors of this wonderful and sacred gift were Alexander Sigal, who is from the city of Sayansk, and two of his sons, both of whom live in Irkutsk. The scroll itself was prepared by Soifers in Jerusalem.
