Houston, Texas - Chabad Headquarters suffers minor damage as Ike Strikes Houston

Hurricane Ike struck Houston, Texas late Friday night causing widespread damage, but Chabad Lubavitch headquarters did not fare too badly. The new building has a lot of glass that was designed specifically to sustain 120 mph hurricane winds. However, the sun screen of the signature rooftop pavilion was ripped off, the Menorah was thrown from the roof and remains dangling, and two massive oak trees toppled blocking a main thoroughfare Fondren Road. The perimeter 10 foot fence was also knocked down. Davening was held at regular times, on Shabbos morning in the lobby of the new building with sunlight, and on Motzei Shabbos in the parking lot with headlights.
