Halperin Optics to open 4 US branches

Optician chain Halperin Optics Ltd. will open four branches in the US over the next 18 months. The first two branches will be opened in haredi (ultra-orthodox) areas of Boro Park and Flatbush in Brooklyn, the third will be located in Manhattan, and the fourth in Los Angeles. The cost of the first branch, due to open in October, is $300,000.

Sources inform ''Globes'' that Halperin Optics is also in advanced negotiations with Wal-Mart Stores Ltd. (NYSE: WMT) to open points of sales at its stores. Halperin Optics said that this will give the company an advantage in entering the US market, and that it will offer glasses at an average price of $120 per pair, compared with $300 per pair in New York. The company will also provide glasses within an hour, a common practice in Israel but not in the US.
