It appears the blaze which erupted in the Ohel Yaakov Shul in the community of Elad at about 2:00am Tuesday morning was the result of arson. Baruch Hashem, there were no injuries but damage is significant. The shul is located on Yonatan Ben Uziel Street.
Fire investigators from Petach Tikvah have inspected the scene and are signaling they believe the fire was the result of an intentional act. Officials add they believe the arsonist is a Jew.
The epicenter of the blaze was near the Aron Kodesh, resulting in heavy damage to a number of sifrei Torah. Investigators do have a direction in their investigation, and without detailing, explaining a number of people are under investigation as chief suspects.
