Cord Blood Campaign Leaders Meet With Prominent Rabbonim

Brooklyn, NY -- The Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation, in conjunction with Boro Park Bikur Cholim, today met with a number of Rabbonim to increase community acceptance of its “Roeh-Es-Hanolad” campaign, an initiative that encourages expectant mothers to store cord blood.

Stem-cell rich cord blood is usually discarded, but is said to have important medical uses that could potentially save a life in the future. Cord blood collection is painless, easy and safe for both mother and baby.

According to the organization, cord blood donation could potentially save as many as twenty percent of Jews who need a bone marrow transplants and for whom no suitable donor can be found.

The Gift of Life and Bikur Cholim representatives met with a number of well known Rabbonim, including R’ Moshe Friedman, Satmar Dayan; R’ Shlomo Gross, Belzer Dayan; R’ Chaim Shia Koenig, Yoker Rov; R’ Simcha Bunim Ehrenfeld, Matesdorf Rav; R’ Gavriel Tzinner, Rav of Netei Gavriel; R’ Yechiel Mechel Steinmetz, Skver Dayan and medical advisor in Boro Park for Bonei Olam; R’ Lazer Eichler, Boyaner Rav; R’ Ben Zion Strasser, Nitra Dayan; R’ Chaim Yaakov Tauber, Bobover Dayan; R’ Moshe Fogel, Gerer Dayan; R’ Ephraim Shimon Leichtag, Satmar Dayan; R’ Chaim Elazar Freidman, Tenker Rav and Rav of Bikur Cholim of Boro Park Chevra Kadisha; and R’ Sholom Noach Weiss, Dayan of Orshiv.
