Hundreds Display Jewish Pride at Detroit Athletic Competition

Hundreds of people donned tefillin at the JCC Maccabi Games in Detroit last week, stopping by a booth run by Rabbi Chaim Bergstein, director of the Chabad House of Farmington Hills, and other area Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries.
Athletes from around the world joined their families and supporters for the games, which ran from Aug. 17 to 22.
According to Bergstein, close to 500 post-bar mitzvah boys and men wrapped the ritual prayer boxes on their arms, some for the first time in their lives.
The local division of Neshei Chabad, the Chabad-Lubavitch women’s organization, also set up a table to hand out Shabbat candles to passing women and girls. …
